Difference Between Violin and Fiddle
I am often times asked what the difference is between a fiddle and a violin. The answer to this question is simple — it's the same instrument played in a different style of music. Many of the Grand National Champion fiddle players are classically trained musicians who just want to work on something fun.
There are some violins that are a better fit sound-wise for fiddle music, but all violins can be used for either style of music.
In today's society, it is rare to meet classical players who don't play other styles of music. There is a distinct difference between players that only play fiddle music and players that only play classical music, the difference being that the technique of a fiddle player is not typically as refined and perfected as the technique of a classical player.
